New Ipswich’s Hill Cemetery

Porter Hill Road, New Ipswich, NH

Tucked away on Porter Hill Road in the sleepy hamlet of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, the Hill Cemetery is the quintessential vision of a New England burial ground, complete with fieldstone walls and centuries-old headstones. The cemetery was laid out in 1852 on a hill opposite the town’s first meetinghouse. Over the course of the American Revolution and the years following, at least 31 Patriots were interred in the “Old Burial Ground” on Farrar Hill. They include:

Benjamin Adams • Ephraim Adams Jr • Ephriam Adams • Isaac Appleton • Charles Barrett Sr • Edmund Briant/Bryant • Aaron Chamberlain • Francis Cragin • Eleazer Cummings • Nathan Cutter • Jonathan Davis • Stephen Farrar • Thomas Fletcher • Benjamin Gibbs • John Gould • Thomas Heald • Isaac Howe • Jonas Jones • Reuben Kidder • Enos Knight Sr • Ebenezer Parker • Stephen Pierce • Edward Pratt • John Pratt • John Preston • Amos Pritchard • Benjamin Safford • Daniel Stratton • Ezra Town • Josiah Walton • Aaron Wheeler

This list was compiled from the SAR Patriot Research System. While our own research has identified discrepancies between various resources, we welcome your feedback should you notice something that should be revised.
