Rediscover Mapledale Phase I

Stow, MA

With the Stow Historical Society as a fiscal sponsor, local partnerships between private organizations and governmental agencies have come together to preserve the historic identity of The Mapledale Golf Course (now Stow Acres Country Club) in Stow, Massachusetts. Mapledale was owned and operated by Robert H. Hawkins, a Black businessman who opened the course in 1926. Rediscover Mapledale is an initiative to research and interpret the story of the Mapledale Country Club both within the physical landscape of the country club itself, and through online and classroom resources. The first phase of the project researched the history of Mapledale and developed a written resource that will serve as the basis for all future interpretation work.
