The Lexington Historical Society cares for a set of bed hangings made by Rachel (Dwight) Gould circa 1768. The bed hangings are on display in the Hancock-Clarke House and are one of only two complete bed hanging sets made in the area during this time. In 2020, the textiles were stained, worn, and fragile. A textile conservator proposed a comprehensive conservation treatment including vacuuming, cleaning, and stabilization and the conservation work was successfully carried out by Deirdre Windsor of Windsor Conservation. By preserving these hangings, the historical society was able to continue displaying a treasured attraction that supports public learning and research.
