SUMMARY:Lexington Celebrates! Walking Tour

Join a Lexington Historical Society educator as they illuminate 250 years of stories full of crowds\, chaos and celebrations! \nStarting and ending at Buckman Tavern\, this tour explores areas around the Lexington Battle Green. SUMMARY:Lighting the Way: An Apprentice Historian Program for Grades 3-5

SUMMARY:Tavern Night
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to step back in time for a day? Now is your chance! Buckman Tavern’s official liquor license expired in 1813\, but we still open for business on occasion. We’re recreating the 18th century tavern experience in Lexington’s most popular 18th century entertainment venue – drop in for colonial music\, games\, snacks\, and beer served from the historic bar in the Buckman’s original taproom. Mingle with the Lexington Militia of 1775\, along with some other colonial characters\, as they bring the Revolutionary tavern to life. Raise a glass to freedom on a cold winter’s night! \nThis event is generously sponsored by Lester E. Savage Real Estate. \n$20 Members/$25 Nonmembers  \nTicket price includes one beer. Cash bar available.  \n This is a 21+ event.

SUMMARY:Connecting Communities: Walks & Talks — "How We Remember" in Lexington
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we continue Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area’s 2024 Connecting Communities: Walks & Talks program with a Lexington Celebrates! Walking Tour hosted by the Lexington Historical Society. \nSpace is limited to 20 people. Registration is required.\nClick here to reserve your spot.\n \nParades\, pageants and pandemonium have defined the many commemorations of the 1775 Battle of Lexington and the first shots of the War for Independence. Over the centuries\, thousands of people have descended upon the Battle Green to welcome Revolutionary War heroes like the Marquis de Lafayette on his tour of America in 1824. The anniversaries of the battle offered them a glimpse of President Grant in 1875 and a word from President Ford in 1975. On this land\, protestors have sat and monuments have been built to the fallen. Join a Lexington Historical Society educator as they illuminate 250 years of stories full of crowds\, chaos and celebrations! \nThis FREE walking tour is offered by the Lexington Historical Society. Starting and ending at Buckman Tavern\, it explores areas around the Lexington Battle Green. The tour is 1 hour long and covers about a 1/2 mile on flat ground. \nFor more information about all of the Lexington Historical Society’s events and programs\, visit their website at www.lexingtonhistory.org/events \nImage of the 1875 Battle of Lexington Centennial Parade provided courtesy of the Lexington Historical Society Archives. \n===\nThis walking tour is featured in the 2024 Connecting Communities: Walks & Talks series\, “How We Remember.” Connecting Communities: Walks & Talks is part of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area’s larger interpretive strategy which aims to provide life-long learning opportunities to residents and visitors\, connecting them to local landscapes while raising awareness of and inspiring support for conservation and preservation initiatives in the region. \nThis year’s thematic focus is inspired by our semiquincentennial initiative\, How We Remember: A Survey of Revolutionary War Monuments\, Memorials and Markers within the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. The series explores the ways in which people and events of the Revolutionary War period are commemorated in various towns’ landscapes while sharing fascinating stories behind how and why these commemorative objects came to be.
