A teacher, principal, and superintendent of schools, Hannah Perkins Dodge (1821-1896) devoted her accomplished career to the field of education, particularly of young women. Born on a farm in Littleton, Massachusetts, she began teaching in a neighboring town at the age of seventeen. To further her education, Dodge attended Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts, and the Townsend Female Seminary in Townsend, Massachusetts, where she taught upon graduation. Administrative positions as a principal in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the Codman Hill Young Ladies School in Dorchester, Massachusetts, followed. Upon retirement, Dodge returned home to Littleton where she devoted herself to philanthropic causes.
