{"id":7413,"date":"2022-01-15T12:48:31","date_gmt":"2022-01-15T12:48:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/s2.designcostaging.com\/clients\/freedoms\/place\/assabet-river-rail-trail\/"},"modified":"2022-02-10T18:44:38","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T18:44:38","slug":"assabet-river-rail-trail","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/staging\/6553\/place\/assabet-river-rail-trail\/","title":{"rendered":"Assabet River Rail Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Assabet River Rail Trail is a partially-completed multi-use rail trail running through the cities and towns of Marlborough, <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/staging\/6553\/communities\/hudson\/\">Hudson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/staging\/6553\/communities\/stow\/\">Stow<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/staging\/6553\/communities\/maynard\/\">Maynard<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/staging\/6553\/communities\/acton\/\">Acton, Massachusetts<\/a>, United States. It is a conversion of the abandoned Marlborough Branch of the Fitchburg Railroad that\u2019s right-of-way parallels the Assabet River in the trail&#8217;s midsection. When fully completed, the end-to-end length will be 12.5 miles. Efforts to develop the trail are spearheaded by the all-volunteer, non-profit organization Assabet River Rail Trail, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>In 1851 <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/staging\/6553\/story\/henry-david-thoreau\/\">Henry David Thoreau<\/a> wrote in his famous journal about a trek to Boon&#8217;s Pond\u2014today known as Lake Boon located in the towns of Stow and Hudson\u2014which on the return included a walk along the railroad tracks now replaced by the trail.<\/p>\n<p>There are four boat launches providing canoe and kayak access to the Assabet River along the trail: one in Hudson at Main Street Landing; one in Stow at Magazu Landing; and two in Maynard, at White Pond Road and Ice House Landing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Assabet River Rail Trail is a partially-completed multi-use rail trail running through the cities and towns of Marlborough, Hudson, Stow, Maynard, and Acton, Massachusetts, United States.
