The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation manages the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Exhibits detail the mountain\u2019s unique geologic history, including the effects of the last glacial period; its human history, from the area\u2019s indigenous peoples who gave the mountain its name, to the European colonists who settled the area; a stand of ancient trees found on the mountain, believed to be the only old-growth forest in Massachusetts east of the Connecticut River; and an antique collection of preserved birds that are found in the region.
