The town-owned cemetery was established in 1771, just a few years before the Revolution began. The grave markers here include a memorial to Eden London, an enslaved Black veteran of the Revolutionary War. When London fell ill after the war, the responsibility of his care fell to the town. The town of Winchendon attempted to fight the responsibility in court, but was eventually ordered to pay. London was buried outside the cemetery walls and never exhumed, although the memorial was later placed inside the gates.<\/p>\n<p>Other known Patriots interred here include:<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Boynton \u2022 Moses Hale \u2022 Job Hyde \u2022 Nathon\/Nathan Knight \u2022 Eden London \u2022 Ephraim Parmenter \u2022 Paul Raymond \u2022 William Robbins \u2022 David Roberts \u2022 Bartholomew Stearns \u2022 Israel Whitcomb<\/p>\n<p><em>This list was compiled from the SAR Patriot Research System.
