SUMMARY:School #8 Open House
DESCRIPTION:Shirley‘s School #8 was built in 1848 and housed classes into the early 20th century. Then it was used as a municipal building where community groups could meet. In 1976\, the Shirley Historical Society began the project to return the building to its appearance as a schoolhouse. Visitors can now sit at an old fashioned desk\, look at vintage books\, write with a fountain pen\, and experience what it was like to attend class in a one-room schoolhouse. \n  \nThis program is offered by the Shirley Historical Society as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area.
