SUMMARY:Dedication of the Mill Curfew Bell
DESCRIPTION:The Maynard Curfew Bell was cast in the former Paul Revere Foundry in Boston\, MA\, by Henry Northey Hooper in 1856. It was bought for the Assabet Manufacturing Company and used to remind workers in the mill to be at home and in bed when the bell rang. When the mill closed\, the bell was moved to a local church\, and when the church recently closed\, the bell was moved to the Maynard Public Library. This event will celebrate the bell in its new home. There will be speakers\, refreshments\, and a bell-themed storytime for children. \nPhoto courtesy of Jean Maguire \n  \nThis program is offered by Maynard Public Library and the Maynard Historical Commission as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area.
