SUMMARY:Discover the Carlisle Copper Mine
DESCRIPTION:Come discover the Carlisle Copper Mine\, one of the only mines in Eastern Massachusetts! The mine was in operation during the 1840s until larger copper deposits were discovered in Michigan. The entrance to the mine shaft is located at the end of a short trail through the woods. Docents from the Carlisle Historical Society will show visitors around the site and will provide more history about this unusual hidden treasure. \nVisitors are also invited to tour the Society’s Heald House Museum which is located on the property next to the mine site. The museum has various artifacts related to the mine on display along with many other items including an impressive collection of artifacts used by the Carlisle Minutemen in the Battle of Lexington and Concord. \nPARKING & ACCESS: The mine is located on the grounds of the Carlisle Historical Society’s Heald House museum complex located at 698 Concord Street in Carlisle\, MA. Please be advised that there is limited parking. The Carlisle Copper Mine site is only accessible on foot via a very short hiking trail. The Heald House Museum is a historic 18th century home and does not have an elevator.\n \n  \nThis program is offered by the Carlisle Historical Society as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. Hidden Treasures programs are free and open to the public. Click to discover more Hidden Treasures!
