Walden Pond Visitors Center

915 Walden Street, Concord, MA

The Walden Pond Visitors Center, a state-of-the-art facility redesigned in 2016 with green technology, serves as a gateway to the Walden Pond State Reservation, owned and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The one-story design features an extensive deck, interior exhibit space, meeting and office space, and a bookstore/gift shop that is operated by The Thoreau Society. Ten percent of the net sales proceeds from the store directly benefit Walden Pond State Reservation.

Interpretive displays include a timeline history of Henry David Thoreau’s years at Walden Pond, a topographic map of Walden Pond State Reservation, a living legacy exhibit showing Thoreau’s influence worldwide, and several interactive exhibits designed for children.

The Visitor Center is open daily, though hours vary seasonally. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Public restrooms are available.
