Sunset View Farm

157 Gardner Rd, WInchendon, MA

Sunset View Farm has been actively farmed for over 200 years. In the 1970s, the property and its 1790 colonial farmhouse were purchased by Chuck and Livvy Tarleton, who named the farm after a sign they found in the shed.

Although the Tarletons both had careers in education, they began farming the property under the wing of a generous Lunenburg farmer. Soon, the 70-acre organic farm was producing
lettuce, tomatoes, corn, blueberries, peaches, strawberries, broccoli, and more. The Tarletons tapped their maple trees and began producing syrup in an on-site sugar shack.

In 2020, a partnership between the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust and the North County Land Trust helped place the farm under a conservation restriction. They also implemented a trail that winds through the property’s forests, wetlands, and agricultural fields. An Option to Purchase at Agricultural Value, also held by Mount Grace, will keep the land and the house at an affordable price for the next generation of Sunset View farmers.
