Sue and Bob Evon spent most of their working lives as teachers, but when they saw a news special about a Vermont alpaca farm, they knew they had found the perfect retirement gig. Sleeping Monk Farm was launched as a hobby farm in 1998 with just two female alpacas and two cria. Since then, their herd has grown to 48 Huacaya alpacas available for sale and breeding.
In 2019, the Evons opened the Sleeping Monk Farm Store, which sells a variety of products made from alpaca wool or felt. Items include finished goods like socks and sweaters as well as craft supplies such as roving and yarn.
Sleeping Monk also offers a youth mentorship program to help young farmers learn to care for alpacas.
