Also known as the Haynes-Wheeler-Schultz Farm, Schultz Farm was first registered with the Town of Bolton in 1790. For a time during the 1820s, a grist mill on the property produced and sold animal horn combs. The Schultz Family has operated the Farm since 1914, and is now enjoying its fifth generation of family ownership.
The Schultz family’s reign on the farm began when John and Emily Schultz emigrated from Russia. They purchased the 1790 block construction farmhouse, pond, and 125 acres from Elmer Davis for “one dollar and other considerations.” Originally, the family raised dairy and beef cows, chickens, fruits, and vegetables.
John and Emily passed the farm to their son Herman Schultz Sr. and his wife Floris, who in turn passed it to Herman “Sonny” Schultz Jr. and his wife June. Their son, John Schultz, eventually took over the farm with his wife Ellen. John and Ellen’s son Justin Schultz is the current owner and lead farmer.
Today’s Schultz Farm spans over 50 acres, and primarily grows and sells hay. While a fire in 2019 destroyed most of the 1800s addition, the 1790 house still remains. Schultz Farm was recognized as a “Century Farm” in 2021.
