Meadowbrook Orchards

209 Chace Hill Road, Sterling, MA

Meadowbrook Orchards has operated from its scenic perch in the hills above Wachusett Reservoir for five generations. It was founded in 1912 when John Chandler purchased five abutting farms and combined them into one. Chandler planted an orchard and started a dairy business while he waited for his fruit trees to mature.

Unfortunately, in 1927, the barn housing the dairy cows and thousands of other animals burned in a devastating fire. John Chandler gracefully shifted gears: by that time his beloved fruit trees were producing enough fruit to sustain the farm.

When John Chandler retired in 1946, his son Nathan took over. Nathan modernized the orchard with new technologies in apple storage and tree growth. In 1970, Nathan passed the farm to his son, David Chandler, Sr. David’s wife Kathy Reynolds oversees Meadowbrook Orchards’ farmers’ markets, CSA, and flower gardens. Their son, David Jr., runs the farm store, bakery, and restaurant — including Thursday Night BBQs.

Meadowbrook Orchards now produces an average annual crop of over 50,000 bushels. While most crops are sold wholesale, visitors can find the farm’s own apples, ciders, baked goods, and more on-premises at Chace Hill Road in Sterling. The farm’s disc golf course is another way to explore the scenic 100-acre grounds.
