Conceived and maintained by the Maple Hill Gardeners, a dedicated group of volunteers, the Maple Hill Gardens at Beaver Brook Association’s Maple Hill Farm in Hollis, New Hampshire include 13 themed gardens, a natural play area, a demonstration compost court, picnic areas and a wildflower trail.
The gardens expanded plantings done on the site by Franklin and MaryAnn Colburn who owned the property from 1868-1917. Frank planted maple trees in front of the house along Ridge Road to commemorate the nation’s centennial and built a gazebo for his wife so she could host teas in her garden. MaryAnn and her daughter enjoyed learning about local flora and fauna and led nature walks for children on their property.
The best season for visiting Maple Hill Gardens is from April through October and garden tours and presentations are available with a reservation. For more information, including a description of each garden visit Beaver Brook’s website.
