Hollis’s Congregational Church Cemetery

3 Monument Square, Hollis, NH

As the town’s only cemetery until the late 1700s, Hollis, New Hampshire’s Congregational Church Cemetery was the singular option for about 900 town citizens. Nearly 100 of them are known to be Revolutionary War soldiers. Among the buried are two of the locally-famous Nevens brothers, who answered the call to arms so swiftly on April 19, 1775 that they left a boulder they were moving in the middle of the road.

At least 54 known Patriots are interred at this Monument Square location. They include:

Benjamin Abbott • William Adams Jr. • Daniel Bailey • Joel Bailey/Bayley • Ebenezer Ball Jr. •  Josiah Blood Sr. • Josiah Blood Jr. •  William Brooks Sr. • Wilder Chamberlain • James Colburn • Nathan Colburn • Robert Colburn Jr. •  Joshua Davis • Reuben Dow • Amos Eastman Sr. • Caleb Eastman • Jonathan Eastman • Daniel Emerson • Ralph Emerson • Benjamin Farley • Christopher Farley • Ebenezer Farley • Stephen Farley • Jonas Flagg • Ebenezer Gilson •  John Hale • Aaron Hardy • Ephraim How • Joseph How • Stephen Jewett Jr. • Stephen Jewett Sr. •  Timothy Lawrence • Nathaniel Leeman • Asa Lovejoy • Samuel Lovejoy • Jacob Mooar/Moore •  Joseph Nevins • William Nevins Sr. • Jonathan Parker • Levi Parker • Thomas Patch Jr. • Richard Pierce • Solomon Pierce • William Poole • Sampson/Samson Powers • Moses Proctor Jr. • Nehemiah Ranger • William Reed • William Tenney • Moses Thurston • Asahel Twiss/Twist • Ebenezer Wheeler • Samuel Willoughby • Benjamin Wright Jr. • Joshua Wright
