Gleason Public Library Gettysburg Collection

22 Bedford Road, Carlisle, MA

The special collections at Carlisle’s Gleason Library have long been a treasure trove of historical artifacts. Although the “Hollis Room” collections were moved to the Carlisle Historical Society after the library’s renovation in 2000, some parts of the collection are still available for public viewing. Most notably, the Gettysburg Collection, which was bestowed to the town in 1919 by W. Irving Heald, features a number of Civil War-era artifacts, including sabers, firearms, and a flag. Rotating exhibits at the Gleason Library and the Historical Society’s Heald House offer the public the opportunity to view the items, but the exhibits are also available online.
