This patch of farmland in Sterling, Massachusetts has been an agricultural site for more than 200 years. The farmhouse and post and beam barn were purchased by Caswell and Etta Wood in 1906. They passed the farm to their only surviving child, Edith Wood, who married neighboring farmer Norman Sawyer.
In the 1940s, Norman planted the orchard that still remains today. In 1989, Norman and Edith’s grandaughter Diane moved to the farm with her husband Rick Melone and started the first retail operation. The Melone family is the sixth generation to run the property.
Clearview Farm operates primarily in the late summer and fall. They sell seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as plants, baked goods, cider, maple syrup, and other craft items. In season, guests can pick their own strawberries, blueberries, peaches, raspberries, apples, and pumpkins. Visit the ice cream window in the old barn and enjoy the “clear view” of Mount Wachusett from this scenic hilltop location.
