Chip-In Farm

201 Hartwell Road, Bedford, MA

Bedford, Massachusetts’s Chip-In Farm is a family-owned and operated general store and working farm, known for selling quality fresh eggs. It began as a small egg delivery farm in 1944, when the Couvee family purchased six acres off of Hartwell Road. Soon, the farm evolved into a self-service stand that functioned on the honor system.

When demand for eggs declined in the late 80’s and 90’s, Chip-In Farm began adding produce, bread, and other grocery items to the general store. Egg sales have since resurged, but the general store continues to expand its offerings.

Today, the farm is run by the third generation of family ownership. Neil and Paul Couvee tend the hens with the help of their families and staff, and Sandy Couvee leverages the farm’s goats, fields, and equipment to provide learning experiences for Bedford’s youngest community members. They also offer community enrichment events, including goat yoga.

Chip-In Farm has remained remarkably loyal to its roots while demonstrating a willingness to evolve with the times. Today, it is the only working farm in Bedford with animals and a farm stand.
