Burroughs Farm

Burroughs Farm (historically known as the Taylor-Burroughs Farm) is a former dairy farm and apple orchard that has been owned and operated by the same family for over 150 years. In 2010, the farm expanded to include a market and a CSA program that sells vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, and grains.

The farm has been in the family since 1848, when Zabine and Louisa Burroughs moved to Boxborough from New Hampshire. While Burroughs farm was primarily a dairy farm, they also raised asparagus, apples, hops, and other vegetables, which they shipped via rail to Boston.

The current owner, Byron Clemence, inherited the farm from his aunt, Sylvia Sheehan, who lived on the dairy farm for her entire life and sold milk from the herd of Guernsey and Jersey cows. Clemence sold the property’s 1750 farmhouse, but he continued Sheehan’s wish to preserve the farm with an agricultural restriction. Today, the farm consists of 50 protected acres.

Four of those 50 acres are cultivated by Clemence, farm manager Ed Skricki, marketing manager Kathie Becker, and their team. In 2010, the sixth-generation family farmers began a farmstand and CSA, selling apples, pears, strawberries, herbs, grains, and more. Farm-goers can purchase goods at local farmers markets or through the Burroughs Farm CSA program.
