The Acton Memorial Library houses a Civil War archive documenting the town’s soldiers and sailors. The library’s collection includes photographs, pension files, obituaries, cemetery records, and more. Not only does the collection serve as a valuable genealogical and educational resource, but it honors the legacy of Acton’s veterans.
The “Not Afraid to Go” Exhibit, on permanent display at the library, features an audio tour and showcases artifacts owned by the library as well as replicas from the Acton Historical Society. The exhibit was dedicated on Patriots’ Day, April 19, 2008, and made possible by a Community Preservation Act grant, the Friends of the Acton Libraries, the Acton Memorial Library Foundations Matching Donations Fund, the Acton Rotary Club, the Acton Lions Club, and the library’s Lois Parker Fund. It is open during regular library hours.
