SUMMARY:Before He Was Count Rumford: Benjamin Thompson’s American Youth

George Washington’s Home and Headquarters—Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, a comprehensive study for the National Park Service\, and contributions to Todd Andrlik’s Reporting the Revolutionary War (Sourcebooks\, 2012)\, James Marten’s Children in Colonial America (New York University Press\, 2007)\, and many journals and magazines. SUMMARY:Woburn's Road to Revolution
DESCRIPTION:In the City of Woburn\, Massachusetts\, we are fortunate to have a section of the ancient road used by the Woburn Militia\, led by Major Loammi Baldwin\, as they marched toward Lexington on April 19\, 1775\, answering the alarm and call to arms. \nOriginally called Sawpit Lane when it was laid out by the Founders in 1644 and now referred to as Battle March Road\, it stills exists\, much the same as it was in the 18th century\, never having been paved or altered since that time. \nIn celebration of this historical site\, and to raise awareness of the project to restore and preserve it\, the Woburn Historical Commission will present “Woburn’s Road to Revolution” in the Richardson Gallery at the Woburn Public Library (a National Historic Landmark). \nThrough short scenes reenacted by costumed living history interpreters and narrators\, this program will tell the history of Battle March Road and stories of Woburn residents on April 19\, 1775\, the day the American Revolutionary War began. \nThe program will run twice\, from 3:00-3:45 PM and again from 4:00-4:45 PM. \n \nThis program is offered by the Woburn Historical Commission and Woburn Public Library as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area.
