SUMMARY:Stargazing at Fruitlands Museum with Aldrich Astronomical Society
DESCRIPTION:Take in the stunning magic of the autumn skies at Fruitlands Museum! \nJoin the Aldrich Astronomical Society on the Fruitlands hillside for a fun\, and informative\, night of stargazing. With a waxing moon illuminating the skies\, as well as the chance to catch a glimpse of far-flung planets and star formations\, who knows what you’ll spy from your telescope! \nThis event is open to all ages. We will have scopes available for visitor use and a hands-on table including meteorites you can check out close up. If you have them\, bring along a pair of binoculars and we will demonstrate how to use them for star gazing. \nPlease note the property can get quite dark after sunset. While perfect for stargazing\, we recommend bringing your own flashlight or lantern to help you find your way. \nAbout Aldrich Astronomical Society: \nAldrich Astronomical Society (AAS)\, which was founded in 1932\, is one of the oldest astronomy clubs in the United States. We are dedicated to promoting an understanding of the night sky. Visitors can look forward to seeing constellations\, planets\, and more through a variety of telescopes. \nPlease note: Stargazing is very weather-dependent\, and we can’t guarantee what will be visible in the sky on a given evening. If we need to reschedule due to weather\, we will let you know as early as possible via email. \nAdvanced registration is suggested for this program. \nCancellation Policy: In the event The Trustees cancels a program due to severe weather\, low enrollment\, or other circumstances\, we will notify registrants by email and issue a full refund or transfer to another scheduled program within two weeks of the cancellation. To cancel a reservation\, please contact Fruitlands Museum 7 days prior to the start of the program to receive a full refund. Refunds and transfers will not be granted for cancellations placed fewer than 7 days before the start of the program.  \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Calling All Woodland Fairies and Gnomes! The Fruitlands Fairy Forest is back! Stop by the Fairy Village to help welcome them for their summer stay! \nWhile living at Fruitlands\, 10-year-old Louisa May Alcott wrote in her diary that she “had a lovely time in the woods with Anna and Lizzie. We were fairies\, and made gowns and paper wings. I ‘flied’ the highest of all.” \nDon your wings\, grab your crowns\, and come play in the Fruitlands woods as Louisa and her sisters once played. We encourage all visitors to our grounds and trails to build fairy and gnome houses around the Willard Archeological site along the yellow trail at Fruitlands Museum. Collect natural materials and build a house for the Fruitlands fairies and gnomes\, then leave your house for the sprites to enjoy and other guests to see as the fairy forest grows. \nRegister online to receive a digital DIY Fruitlands Fairy Forest Activity Kit (including map\, fairy wand craft tutorial\, and more) prior to your visit. Be sure to scroll through your confirmation email below the tickets for visitor info and the link to your Activity Kit. The Activity Kit will also be available through QR codes throughout the property. \nFairy Forest visitors should be aware that due to wet conditions\, some trails may be waterlogged or muddy. Please dress appropriately for the hiking loop. \nDATES: Daily from May 21 through June 21. SUMMARY:Tea and Talk: Enslavement in the Puritan Village with Local Historian Jane Sciacca
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a series of winter lectures at Fruitlands Museum. We’ll be gathering in the Museum cafe to enjoy some hot beverages and lively discussions about the history of the site and its collections. \nIn honor of Black History Month\, local historian Jane Sciacca will be giving a talk on the history of enslavement in the colonial north. Published in 2025\, Jane’s book\, Enslavement in the Puritan Village\, examines the previously untold stories of the men\, women\, and children who were enslaved in colonial towns such as Sudbury\, Concord\, and Framingham. Using church records\, bills of sale\, and military documents\, Jane’s research sheds new light on the pervasive impact of slavery across colonial Massachusetts. This program invites community members to learn and engage with the often-overlooked history of enslavement in Massachusetts. \nAbout the speaker: Jane Sciacca is a retired national park ranger with a degree in history education from Simmons University. Her work as an interpreter for the National Park Service in Concord\, Boston and Cambridge led to her interest in researching enslavement and abolition in her own community of Wayland\, where she has lived with her family for more than fifty years. As chair of the Wayland Historical Commission\, she oversaw the 1981 publication of the first history of Wayland as a separate town\, The Puritan Village Evolves.
