SUMMARY:Reframe: Sculpture at the Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:ReFrame brings together the work of Adria Arch\, Olivia Baldwin\, Tory Fair\, Anna Kristina Göransson\, and Kate Holcomb Hale\, five artists with deep ties to Arlington whose practices share a restless relationship with sculptural convention. Shown in the Mill’s historic upper rooms\, close to the spaces where frames were crafted by hand\, the work spills across walls and floors\, refusing the categories that would hold it still. \nEach artist will display large-scale pieces alongside smaller works for sale\, with proceeds supporting The Old Schwamb Mill. \nThe exhibition runs September 12 – November 14\, 2026\, with an opening reception on Saturday\, September 26\, 2–3:30 pm\, a panel discussion on Saturday\, October 24\, 2–3 pm\, and a closing reception on Saturday\, November 14.

SUMMARY:Lou Jones’ panAFRICAproject Comes to the Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:The Old Schwamb Mill is proud to host the panAFRICAproject\, a compelling photography exhibition by Boston-based photographer Lou Jones. On view from March 21 through May 16\, the exhibition opens with a public reception at 2:00 PM on March 21 and concludes with a closing talk and event at 2:00 PM on May 16. \nMore than a decade in the making\, panAFRICAproject is a country-by-country visual documentary that challenges long-standing stereotypes and reframes how Africa is understood in the Western imagination. Rather than focusing on narratives of conflict and poverty\, Jones turns his lens toward the vibrancy\, innovation\, and everyday realities of contemporary African life\, highlighting industry\, education\, healthcare\, sports\, music\, and infrastructure across the continent. The project has grown into an expansive visual archive and educational platform\, exhibited in schools\, galleries\, museums\, and public spaces. With a long-term goal of documenting all 54 African countries\, the project continues to evolve as a celebration of culture\, progress\, and daily life. \nHosting panAFRICAproject at the Old Schwamb Mill places these global stories within a site deeply rooted in craft\, labor\, and community history. As a living industrial museum\, the mill provides a unique setting where photography\, history\, and contemporary dialogue intersect. The exhibition also serves as a community gathering point\, welcoming visitors of all ages. Lou Jones puts together a powerful photography exhibition reimagining how Africa is seen\, and bringing global stories into a historic local space.

SUMMARY:The Road Where It Happened: Revolution Comes to Menotomy
DESCRIPTION:The Road Where It Happened: Revolution Comes to Menotomy \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, December 6\, 2:00 to 3:30 pm \nExhibit runs through Saturday\, March 14\, 2026 \n  \nThe Old Schwamb Mill is reopening its Arlington 250 exhibit\, The Road Where It Happened: Revolution Comes to Menotomy\, which includes an interactive gallery for families. The exhibit examines the landscape and people of Menotomy and their role in the founding of America. Informative panels answer questions including how prehistoric geological forces created the landscape of Menotomy and how the narrow corridor of Battle Road between steep hillsides at the Foot of the Rocks in Arlington Heights influenced the outcome of the American Revolution. The exhibit also identifies some of the people in Menotomy who played a role on that critical day of April 19\, 1775. \n  \nArlington 250 is a multi-year commemoration\, recognition\, and celebration of our history from its colonial beginnings to the present. A variety of programs at the Mill and other historic sites in the region recount the history we know and some stories previously untold as our ancestors battled for the rights and freedoms of everyone. The “Road” exhibit was originally shown at the Mill from December 2024 through May 2025 and at Arlington Town Hall from September to November 2025. \n  \nMill Hours: Tuesday and Saturday\, 10 am-4 pm. Open for guided tours of our living history museum; viewing of the exhibition in our second-floor galleries; and sales of our custom-made\, museum quality\, oval and circular picture and mirror frames. \n  \nThe Old Schwamb Mill\, 17 Mill Lane\, Arlington\, MA\, 02476\,  www.oldschwambmill.org. \n781-643-0554 or info@oldschwambmill.org \n  \n
