SUMMARY:Footsteps of History: Walking Tours of Sudbury
DESCRIPTION:In May\, the Goodnow Library will explore the town of Sudbury’s Barton Farm Conservation Land. The Barton Farm was once the home of George H. Barton\, professor\, geologist\, and founder of the Boston Children’s Museum. On our walk we’ll discuss Barton’s career and travels as an “explorer” and\, in commemoration of the nation’s 250th\, explore how 19th century ideas of nationhood and America played a role in Barton’s decision to collect artifacts from the Indigenous communities he visited. \nFollowing the walk\, walkers are invited to drop by the Goodnow Library to explore collection materials donated by George Barton. \nWe will leave as a group from the Davis Field parking area at 1pm and walk down the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail towards Pantry Brook where the rail trail intersects with Barton Farm Conservation Land. Registration for this event is recommended. Drop ins are welcome\, but the group will plan to leave the meet up area promptly at 1pm. \nREGISTRATION REQUESTED: https://goodnowlibrary.org/events/ \nDATE: Wednesday\, May 27 \nTIME: 1 – 2 PM \nLOCATION: Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. Walkers should plan to park and meet at the Davis Field & Davis Farm Conservation Area parking lot located at 195 North Road\, Sudbury\, MA 01776. \nACCESS: Walk will be about 30-45 minutes on mostly flat\, easily accessible trails and are open to all \n  \nThis program is offered by Goodnow Library as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area.
