Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area Announces Hidden Treasures 2023 Programs

Join us in celebrating the remarkable people, places, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area!

Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area is pleased to announce the 2023 Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History, a month-long celebration showcasing the people, places and stories that make the Heritage Area a special place to live, work and visit.

Throughout the month of May, communities and organizations across the 994-square-mile Heritage Area, home to over 750,000 people, offer free, public programs featuring a “hidden treasure.” Programs feature individual objects, public monuments, buildings, or landscapes and highlight exciting and unexpected stories about their past. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about a “treasure” hiding in plain sight!

This year’s Festival offers more than 50 programs and events organized by nearly 50 nonprofit, local, state, and federal partners, promising something for everyone. Enjoy a guided walk, tour a museum, visit a farm, and so much more—all for free!

New this year are thematic programs exploring the Heritage Area’s Monuments and Memorials and those in support of Operation Pollination, a national effort that underscores the importance of pollinator habitat both restored and maintained on public and private lands.

“The Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History provides a unique opportunity to explore the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area to learn about the region’s role in shaping America’s story,” explained Patrice Todisco, Executive Director of Freedom’s Way, ” Offering a wide range of experiences, it’s a great way to learn something new and see the region through a different lens.”

Hidden Treasures events and activities are featured on the Freedom’s Way website’s Community Calendar and Interactive Map, as well as in the free mobile app “Explore Freedom’s Way,” enhancing the ability to plan your adventure across the Heritage Area’s 45 communities.

There are now even more ways to discover this year’s Hidden Treasures!
