SUMMARY:Revolutionary Run
DESCRIPTION:In April 2026\, Patrick Atkinson\, a Scottish Rite Mason from Delaware\, will lace up his running shoes and set out on a monumental journey\, running from Wilmington\, Delaware\, to Lexington\, Massachusetts. This isn’t just a physical test of endurance. It’s a fundraiser to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library\, and a tribute to the role many Freemasons played in the American Revolution\, 250 years ago. \nPatrick\, an experienced long-distance runner\, will run 333 miles over 8 days. His route will take him through many areas that witnessed historic events during the American Revolution. Patrick is undertaking this extraordinary journey\, running 50-60 miles a day\, to raise awareness about the museum\, to mark the events surrounding the founding of the United States and—most importantly—to connect with people\, history\, and Freemasons along the way. \nPatrick will end his run by running through Lexington center and arriving at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library at 12 PM on 4/11.

SUMMARY:Bedford Liberty Pole Capping & Raising Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:The Liberty Pole Capping and Raising is a reenactment of a practice in Colonial America signifying dissatisfaction with varied rulings and conduct of the English government of that date. It is meant to be commemorative of the spirit of liberty exemplified by Bedfordians and other colonials in the early phases of the War for Independence. \nThe Colonial units from the surrounding area form up on the Town Green\, in front of the Unitarian Church. The VIP guests assemble at the Fitch Tavern. This is the place where the original Bedford Minutemen assembled on the morning of April 19th\, 1775. After the colonial units pass the Fitch Tavern\, on their way to Willson Park\, the VIPs and the Bedford Minutemen follow with the pole. After a few words\, the pole is erected and capped\, and hopefully this will not attract the attention of any British patrols. This takes about forty-five minutes or less if the weather doesn’t cooperate. \nFor more information. \nFor flyer information click here. \nPhoto courtesy of the Bedford Minuteman Company \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event explores our region’s revolutionary past! SUMMARY:The Role of the Press in the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:18th century newspapers and pamphlets were essential to the dissemination of information and were instrumental in fanning the flames of discord on both sides of the revolutionary conflict. However\, how did printers get their information? This interactive program\, with the added component of 18th century material culture items\, focuses on the incredible process of typesetting and the role that printing and propaganda played in the pivotal events leading up to the American Revolution. \nMichele Gabrielson is a local history teacher and historic interpreter of the 18th century. When she is not teaching in the classroom\, Michele can be found leading tours\, lectures\, and demonstrations at historic sites in the greater Boston area. She specializes in interpreting the history of colonial women printers\, the stories of loyalist refugees\, and of 18th century chocolate makers! \nPart of Bigelow Free Public Library’s Revolution 250 Series\, supported\, in part\, through the Freedom’s Way NHA Partnership Grant Program

SUMMARY:Reenactment of the Battle of Lexington
DESCRIPTION:On the night of April 18th\, 1775\, over 700 British soldiers were sent from Boston to Concord to destroy a store of ammunition and other supplies for an anticipated war. As dawn approached on the fateful following morning\, the town militia of Lexington stood in anxious anticipation to stand in their way. The two groups squared off on the town common\, a single\, mysterious shot rang out\, and the British soldiers opened fire. When the smoke cleared\, eight Americans lay dead\, another ten were wounded\, and a war for independence had begun. \nEach year\, the town of Lexington and a dedicated corps of reenactors recreates this event in real time on its original site. This year\, the event will take place on Saturday\, April 18th\, at approximately 5:15 AM. \nVISITOR TIPS: The Battle Reenactment starts very early in the morning\, with the Belfry ringing the militia to muster at 5:15 am and the battle following at 6:00 am (the actual time the historic battle occurred). The crowd around the Green can be several people deep; plan to arrive early\, by 4:00 AM if not earlier\, to pick a viewing spot. Ladders and stepstools are not allowed on the Green (please see the town website for other restrictions). \nPhoto courtesy of the Lexington Minute Men \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event explores our region’s revolutionary past! SUMMARY:Isaac Davis Trail March
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, on the Monday of Patriots’ Day weekend\, the Acton Minutemen recreate the famous march to Concord over the remnants of the original trail that Captain Isaac Davis and his men traveled on that fateful day\, referred to by stone markers labeled “Line of March\, April 19\, 1775”. Click here to learn more about this story. \nWe start off at the Isaac Davis homestead at 39 Hayward Rd. in Acton at 5:50am\, where we hold a short ceremony of remembrance. From there\, we head to Acton Center\, arriving about 6:20am at the monument where Isaac Davis\, Abner Hosmer\, and James Hayward are buried\, and have another short remembrance ceremony. From there we march to Concord over the original route (as closely as possible)\, arriving at the Old North Bridge about 9:00\, where we will reenact the original battle that took place there\, along with British reenactor units. \nThe public is encouraged to join us as we march the trail from Acton to Concord. It is an experience that you and your family will never forget. Join in the history\, in the fun\, and in the tradition. Make this event a regular tradition in your family and keep the “life” in living history!! \nImage courtesy of jrcovert via Wikimedia Commons \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event explores our region’s revolutionary past!
