SUMMARY:Prepared for War: Sudbury and the Massachusetts Militia
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Sudbury History Center and Museum on July 16th for a fascinating evening lecture on Sudbury and the Massachusetts Militia on the eve of Lexington and Concord! \n\n\n\n\nIn October 1774\, the Massachusetts Provincial Congress ordered towns across the Colony to prepare for war with England. In response\, the Colony entered a wartime phase that included creating minute companies\, stockpiling arms\, ammunition\, and equipment\, and establishing a defense network ready to mobilize if the redcoats marched from Boston into the countryside. \nJoin historian Alexander Cain as he discusses the Colony’s response to the British threat of war and examines the Massachusetts militia and minuteman system\, with an emphasis on Sudbury on the eve of Lexington and Concord.

Come appreciate the wonders Umbrella student artists create! Admission is free and the galleries are open to all\, as is the opening reception (RSVP). \nDownstairs\, the Allie Kussin Gallery will feature 2D works\, including painting and drawing. The glass cases at the front of the building will feature a selection of 3D works from our ceramics and glass working classes. \nUpstairs\, youth and teen work will be exhibited in the Wedge gallery.  \nSusan Swinand\, an artist with over 25 years of teaching experience (The Worcester Art Museum\, Clark University\, Wellesley College Greenhouses)\, will jury the exhibition and select one Grand Prize winner and a group of Honorable Mentions to receive scholarship funds to be applied to their next arts course at The Umbrella. \n  \nLearn more at TheUmbrellaArts.org/s3\nhttps://theumbrellaarts.org/s3
