SUMMARY:Fruitlands Fairy Forest
DESCRIPTION:Calling All Woodland Fairies and Gnomes! The Fruitlands Fairy Forest is back! Stop by the Fairy Village to help welcome them for their summer stay! \nWhile living at Fruitlands\, 10-year-old Louisa May Alcott wrote in her diary that she “had a lovely time in the woods with Anna and Lizzie. We were fairies\, and made gowns and paper wings. I ‘flied’ the highest of all.” \nDon your wings\, grab your crowns\, and come play in the Fruitlands woods as Louisa and her sisters once played. We encourage all visitors to our grounds and trails to build fairy and gnome houses around the Willard Archeological site along the yellow trail at Fruitlands Museum. Collect natural materials and build a house for the Fruitlands fairies and gnomes\, then leave your house for the sprites to enjoy and other guests to see as the fairy forest grows. \nRegister online to receive a digital DIY Fruitlands Fairy Forest Activity Kit (including map\, fairy wand craft tutorial\, and more) prior to your visit. Be sure to scroll through your confirmation email below the tickets for visitor info and the link to your Activity Kit. The Activity Kit will also be available through QR codes throughout the property. \nFairy Forest visitors should be aware that due to wet conditions\, some trails may be waterlogged or muddy. Please dress appropriately for the hiking loop. \nDATES: Daily from May 21 through June 21. Stop by for the opening weekend to help welcome the Fairies for their summer stay! \nTIME: Dawn to Dusk \nLOCATION: Fruitlands Museum Trails\, 102 Prospect Hill Road\, Harvard\, MA 01451 \n  \n  \nThis program is offered by Fruitlands Museum as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. SUMMARY:Boxborough 1857 School House #2
DESCRIPTION:The current one room wood School House #2 was constructed in 1857 and today is largely unchanged from when it was built. In 1949\, the town sold the existing 4 one-room schoolhouses at auction to the general public. School House #2 was bought by the Robinson family with the intention of preserving it for educational and historical purposes and restoring it as a “living museum” of past education. Over a period of years it has been furnished with antique desks from different time periods so classes could be “taught” to children as part of an “old time school” experience. Schoolhouse #2 is now owned and maintained by the third generation of the Robinson family. \nDATE: Sunday\, May 17 \nTIME: 2 – 4 PM \nLOCATION: Boxborough 1857 School House #2\, 339 Picnic Street (corner of Hill Road)\, Boxborough\, MA 01719 \nACCESS: There is one step up into the building and therefore it is not wheelchair accessible. \n  \n  \nThis program is offered by the Boxborough Historical Society\, in cooperation with The Robinson Family who owns the property\, as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature\, Culture & History\, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places\, objects\, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. SUMMARY:Declaring Independence: Then & Now – Princeton\, MA
DESCRIPTION:Experience Declaring Independence: Then & Now on Saturday\, May 16 at 4:30 PM\, hosted by the Princeton Historical Society and Princeton Historical Commission at the First Congregational Church of Princeton (14 Mountain Road). A guided community conversation will follow\, offering space to reflect and share perspectives. \nDeclaring Independence: Then & Now brings to life the Declaration of Independence as a forum for civic dialogue and engagement through a forty-minute performance and ensuing moderated community conversation. The script\, written by public historian Mary B. Fuhrer\, utilizes primary source material researched by citizen historians to reveal how individuals within Massachusetts towns debated and responded to the question of independence in the spring and summer of 1776\, followed by an annotated reading of the Declaration itself. \nIn commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, 15 community-hosted performances are scheduled across the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area during the spring and summer of 2026. Find a performance near you! \nDeclaring Independence: Then & Now is supported\, in part\, by the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati
