SUMMARY:Reenactment of the Battle of Lexington
DESCRIPTION:On the night of April 18th\, 1775\, over 700 British soldiers were sent from Boston to Concord to destroy a store of ammunition and other supplies for an anticipated war. As dawn approached on the fateful following morning\, the town militia of Lexington stood in anxious anticipation to stand in their way. The two groups squared off on the town common\, a single\, mysterious shot rang out\, and the British soldiers opened fire. When the smoke cleared\, eight Americans lay dead\, another ten were wounded\, and a war for independence had begun. \nEach year\, the town of Lexington and a dedicated corps of reenactors recreates this event in real time on its original site. This year\, the event will take place on Saturday\, April 18th\, at approximately 5:15 AM. \nVISITOR TIPS: The Battle Reenactment starts very early in the morning\, with the Belfry ringing the militia to muster at 5:15 am and the battle following at 6:00 am (the actual time the historic battle occurred). The crowd around the Green can be several people deep; plan to arrive early\, by 4:00 AM if not earlier\, to pick a viewing spot. Ladders and stepstools are not allowed on the Green (please see the town website for other restrictions). \nPhoto courtesy of the Lexington Minute Men \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event explores our region’s revolutionary past! SUMMARY:The Role of the Press in the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:18th century newspapers and pamphlets were essential to the dissemination of information and were instrumental in fanning the flames of discord on both sides of the revolutionary conflict. However\, how did printers get their information? This interactive program\, with the added component of 18th century material culture items\, focuses on the incredible process of typesetting and the role that printing and propaganda played in the pivotal events leading up to the American Revolution. \nMichele Gabrielson is a local history teacher and historic interpreter of the 18th century. When she is not teaching in the classroom\, Michele can be found leading tours\, lectures\, and demonstrations at historic sites in the greater Boston area. She specializes in interpreting the history of colonial women printers\, the stories of loyalist refugees\, and of 18th century chocolate makers! \nPart of Bigelow Free Public Library’s Revolution 250 Series\, supported\, in part\, through the Freedom’s Way NHA Partnership Grant Program

SUMMARY:Bedford Liberty Pole Capping & Raising Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:The Liberty Pole Capping and Raising is a reenactment of a practice in Colonial America signifying dissatisfaction with varied rulings and conduct of the English government of that date. It is meant to be commemorative of the spirit of liberty exemplified by Bedfordians and other colonials in the early phases of the War for Independence. \nThe Colonial units from the surrounding area form up on the Town Green\, in front of the Unitarian Church. The VIP guests assemble at the Fitch Tavern. This is the place where the original Bedford Minutemen assembled on the morning of April 19th\, 1775. After the colonial units pass the Fitch Tavern\, on their way to Willson Park\, the VIPs and the Bedford Minutemen follow with the pole. After a few words\, the pole is erected and capped\, and hopefully this will not attract the attention of any British patrols. This takes about forty-five minutes or less if the weather doesn’t cooperate. \nFor more information. \nFor flyer information click here. \nPhoto courtesy of the Bedford Minuteman Company \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event explores our region’s revolutionary past! SUMMARY:For Love! For Liberty! A new musical Brings Revolutionary History to Life in Lexington
DESCRIPTION:A delightful new family musical celebrating courage\, sacrifice\, and the birth of the American Revolution will come to Lexington this spring. For Love! For Liberty! will be performed on Saturday\, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library. \nBlending original music\, dance\, and powerful storytelling\, For Love! For Liberty! bridges centuries as middle-school history students help the U.S. Park Service bring the past to life. At the heart of the musical is the extraordinary true story of Henry Knox\, a young Boston bookseller who in the winter of 1775–1776 undertook an almost impossible mission: hauling sixty tons of cannon across frozen lakes and snow-covered mountains to save the struggling American Revolution. \nThe production also shines a light on the remarkable woman beside him\, Lucy Knox\, who defied her loyalist family\, sacrificed her fortune\, and sustained Henry’s courage through letters and  cake. \nFilled with memorable songs\, lively choreography\, and engaging historical characters\, the show is designed to inspire audiences of all ages while illuminating one of the most dramatic moments in Revolutionary history. By connecting the past with the present through young students discovering the story\, the musical celebrates the enduring power of love\, liberty\, and determination. \nPresented in historic Lexington\, the performance offers a fitting setting for a story that helped shape the nation’s fight for independence. \nFamilies\, history lovers\, and community members are encouraged to attend this unique theatrical experience that brings the American Revolution vividly to life.

This exhibit is a celebration of how Black people’s magic and culture continue to shape the world. DESCRIPTION:The Umbrella Stage Company proudly presents TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD\, directed by Scott Edmiston and dramatized by Christopher Sergel based on the book by Harper Lee.  \nPlaying in Theater 144 at 40 Stow Street\, Concord\, MA from Friday\, February 27 – Sunday\, March 22\, 2026 | Previews: Friday\, February 27 & Saturday\, February 28 | Press Opening: Sunday\, March 1.  \nAdapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel\, To Kill a Mockingbird opens in a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression\, where Scout and her brother\, Jem\, live with their widowed father\, lawyer Atticus Finch. While the children act out stories and muse about their mysterious neighbor\, Boo Radley\, the facade of their seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young black man is accused of a terrible crime. Driven by an unshakeable moral conviction\, Atticus defends the man in a trial that sends violent waves through the community\, teaching young Scout about prejudice\, compassion and the courage to do what is right. This hard-hitting work is an all-new production of Harper Lee’s story that is timeless\, lingering\, and searingly relevant. \nShows run Sunday at 3:00 PM\, Thursday & Friday at 7:30 PM\, and Saturday at 8:00 PM. The show’s anticipated run time is 2 hours\, 15 minutes long\, with a 15 minute intermission. A special KidCare Show on Sunday\, March 15 will allow parents an opportunity to attend a matinee performance while their child(ren) ages 5-12 engage in art activities inspired by the show in one of The Umbrella’s classrooms with an experienced teacher. \nDinner & A Show packages are available for all Thursday night performances.
