SUMMARY:Lou Jones’ panAFRICAproject Comes to the Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:The Old Schwamb Mill is proud to host the panAFRICAproject\, a compelling photography exhibition by Boston-based photographer Lou Jones. On view from March 21 through May 16\, the exhibition opens with a public reception at 2:00 PM on March 21 and concludes with a closing talk and event at 2:00 PM on May 16. \nMore than a decade in the making\, panAFRICAproject is a country-by-country visual documentary that challenges long-standing stereotypes and reframes how Africa is understood in the Western imagination. Rather than focusing on narratives of conflict and poverty\, Jones turns his lens toward the vibrancy\, innovation\, and everyday realities of contemporary African life\, highlighting industry\, education\, healthcare\, sports\, music\, and infrastructure across the continent. The project has grown into an expansive visual archive and educational platform\, exhibited in schools\, galleries\, museums\, and public spaces. With a long-term goal of documenting all 54 African countries\, the project continues to evolve as a celebration of culture\, progress\, and daily life. \nHosting panAFRICAproject at the Old Schwamb Mill places these global stories within a site deeply rooted in craft\, labor\, and community history. As a living industrial museum\, the mill provides a unique setting where photography\, history\, and contemporary dialogue intersect. The exhibition also serves as a community gathering point\, welcoming visitors of all ages. Lou Jones puts together a powerful photography exhibition reimagining how Africa is seen\, and bringing global stories into a historic local space.

SUMMARY:"A Rebel Town: Groton’s Revolutionary War Sites" Audio Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:“A Rebel Town: Groton’s Revolutionary War Sites” is an immersive audio walking tour created by the Destination Groton Committee to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution. \nLocal historian Joshua Vollmar researched\, wrote and will be your guide on the tour as you explore Groton\, Massachusetts — a town whose rich history was pivotal during America’s struggle for independence. Groton stood prominently as a community where ordinary citizens\, including minutemen ready to march at a moment’s notice under the leadership of Colonel William Prescott\, courageous women who guarded against British spies\, and Black residents seeking freedom\, actively shaped history. Colonel Prescott played a critical role in leading local minutemen\, notably commanding American forces at the iconic Battle of Bunker Hill. \nThis free\, self-guided tour includes 16 stops: the first 10 are easily accessible on foot within Groton’s town center\, while the final 6 stops are best reached by car or bike\, though a few are within a 10-minute walk from the center. Each stop includes a brief\, informative audio segment lasting 4 to 5 minutes\, and while you of course can listen at your own pace\, the entire tour can be comfortably completed in under two hours. \nFor your convenience\, each location has a dedicated Google Map link\, allowing you to effortlessly obtain walking or driving directions right on your mobile device. Playing: Sunday\, April 26\, 2026 through Sunday\, May 17\, 2026 in Theater 144 at 40 Stow Street | Concord\, MA \nHairspray\, the Tony award winner based on the John Waters film\, is a 1960s musical piled bouffant-high with revolutionary joy. The Color Purple choreographer Najee Brown makes his Umbrella directing debut with this big-hearted celebration of what happens when everyone gets a chance to dance. \nShows run Sunday at 3:00 PM\, Thursday & Friday at 7:30 PM\, and Saturday at 8:00 PM (with an exception for a 6:30 PM performance Sunday\, May 3). \nSpecial KidCare Shows on May 3 and May 17 will allow parents an opportunity to attend a matinee performance while their child(ren) ages 5-12 engage in art activities inspired by the show in one of The Umbrella’s classrooms with an experienced teacher. \nDinner & A Show packages are available for all Thursday night performances.  \nBook by Mark O’Donnell & Thomas Meehan. Music by Marc Shaiman. Lyrics by Scott Wittman & Marc Shaiman.
