Learn about the history of the house and hear about its role in the momentous events of April 19, 1775, when the retreating British Regulars clashed with local minutemen in the Battle of Menotomy. Jason Russell House was the scene of some of the deadliest fighting of the day.

On April 19, 1775, the village of Menotomy witnessed the fiercest fighting in the Battle of Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy. Two and a half centuries later, the people of Arlington have come together to commemorate this important historic milestone by honoring the lives lost, highlighting the overlooked perspectives of those marginalized in history, and reflecting on the ways previous centennial milestones were observed.
This commemorative exhibition aims to highlight the Battle of Menotomy as an “Untold Story.” It explores the perspectives of often-overlooked communities involved in the battle and examines how the people of the Commonwealth commemorated, memorialized, and celebrated the important anniversaries of this pivotal event, as the first battle of the American Revolutionary War.
