How was Lancaster settled, and why do we have so many towns that broke off from Lancaster?
When Massachusetts was first colonized by Europeans, towns were created along the coast, but very quickly more space was needed for all of the immigrants. How were locations for inland towns chosen? Why did settlers choose to take on building new towns in the wilderness? Why did Lancaster, the first and largest town, end up splitting into so many other towns later on? Join Lancaster Historical Commission member and local historian Amy Brown in answering these questions.
