Join us for an introduction to beekeeping! The presentation will include:
- Introduction – presenter’s background and experience
- A bee or not a bee – the difference between “good” bees and “bad” bees
- Starting a hive – where to get your first bees
- Physical structure of a hive – put a hive together in the classroom and show the equipment needed to work in a hive
- Colony and organization – the boys, the girls, and the queen
- Bee chores in and out of the hive – from the day they are born until they die
- Collecting honey – from the hive to the bottle (samples)
- Importance of pollination – how important they are to our ecosystem
- Conclusion (Q & A)

This program is offered by the Bigelow Free Public Library as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places, objects, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area.
