Long before the beloved novel, Little Women, was written at a small crescent-shaped desk between two upstairs front windows at Orchard House in 1868, history was being made here.
Since the 1650s, courageous, empathetic, forward-thinking individuals lived on this site, caring for those in need and attempting to change society for the better. Guided tours within the evocative atmosphere of Orchard House will reveal fascinating facets of Alcott “pre-history,” the enduring legacy of the talented, progressive Alcott family, and the impact generations of our stewards and visitors have had. We invite you to join us this year to honor the past, share your own story, and inspire the future!
Orchard House is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sundays from 11 AM to 5 PM.
All visitors are encouraged to reserve Timed-Entry Admission to guarantee the date and timeslot of their choosing as our tours often sell out. (We do our utmost to accommodate “walk-in” visitors as space allows.)
