Historic New England – The Codman Estate c.1740 – Riches to Revolution
Historic New England’s Codman Estate, 1708 to 1968, was home to five generations of the Chambers/Russell/Codman family. In 18th century, it was the largest farm in the area with the largest number of enslaved people laboring on it. At the time of the Revolutionary War, it was owned by Loyalists, Dr. Charles and Elizabeth Russell, who fled to Antigua when the war began.
