Nature-based Solutions (NbS) work with nature to address social, economic, and environmental challenges. Former Fort Devens is using future-forward Nature-based-Solutions to integrate the built and natural environment to combat climate change, improve resiliency, and develop happier and healthier places for people to live, work, learn, and play. Across the community, these green infrastructure elements are creating a network of natural systems that are helping to tackle extreme heat and intense storms head-on. Devens integrates NbS into all development projects through a combination of education, incentives, and regulations.

The virtual tour includes an interactive map, videos of selected Devens sites, and links to resources on topics related to sustainable redevelopment and ecosystem restoration. Thanks in part to a grant from the Massachusetts Ecosystem Climate Adaptation Network, these series of videos explore how the Devens Enterprise Commission has encouraged nature-based solutions throughout its business district, boosting the economy while shrinking our environmental impact, and serving as a model for other communities.
