Boxborough remained a near-frontier area with little European settlement until the mid-18th century, supporting an almost entirely agricultural economy through the 19th century.

Building upon its agricultural roots, Boxborough has cherished its open and wooded spaces, resulting in roughly 20% of the town’s lands set aside for some sort of public use. The 82-acre Beaver Brook Valley Preserve includes the “Boxborough Esker” and hiking trails offering spectacular views of Beaver Brook to the west and other forested and glacial landscape features to the east.

Located at the crossroads of Interstate 495 and Route 111, Boxborough’s scenic, historic, and rural character make it an attractive community in which to live and work. Each year in June, Boxborough celebrates Fifer’s Day commemorating Luther Blanchard, the fifer who marched the local minuteman company to the Battle of Concord on April 19, 1775.
