Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area invites partners throughout the region to join in this year’s Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture, & History, a month-long celebration of the remarkable people, places, and objects related to the Heritage Area’s 45 communities.
WHAT IT IS
Throughout the month of May, Hidden Treasures curates and promotes an immersive mixture of in-person, self-guided, and online events and activities designed and hosted by our partners. This collection of fun and creative offerings showcases the landscapes, structures, collections, traditions, stories, creative works, cultural centers—and more!—of the uniquely American region that is the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area.
WHO’S IT FOR
Any organization/group/community whose work connects to the nature, culture, and/or history of any of the 45 towns and cities within the Heritage Area is welcomed to be a Hidden Treasures Community Partner, gaining exposure to audiences throughout the region.
PARTNER BENEFITS
Hidden Treasures Partners and activities are featured prominently on Freedom’s Way’s Community Calendar and Interactive Map, newsletters, print promotions, and our mobile app “Explore Freedom’s Way NHA.” Co-op ads and mutual promotions among our partners further enhance your visibility across and beyond the Heritage Area, introducing your work to new and diverse audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Mini-Grants Available! It costs NOTHING to participate, and in fact, Freedom’s Way can support your participation with reimbursements up to $350 to offset qualified program expenses!
HOW YOU CAN BE PART
Submit an event or activity that you will host (see some examples) featuring a “hidden treasure” that:
- takes place within Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area (see map)
- is scheduled for any day and time you choose during the month of May
- is free and open to the public (limiting the number of attendees and requesting registration is okay!)
- connects to the nature, culture, and/or history of your area
Partners do what they can to promote their own events and others in the Festival (we provide the signage, publicity materials and hashtags).
Follow up with us for reimbursement of expenses (up to $350) after the event!

By working together, Hidden Treasures Community Partners increase accessibility to our region’s heritage assets for all, bringing awareness and appreciation to the valued treasures that make Freedom’s Way worthy of its national distinction. Planning departments, CVBs, Cultural Districts, trusts and foundations—be sure to let your partners know about this opportunity to showcase their “hidden treasures” in your area!
