In case the name “Ye Olde Burying Ground” didn’t already imply this graveyard’s colonial roots, this property across from the Lexington Battle Green is the final resting place of more than 50 Revolutionary War Patriots. The cemetery originally interred some of the Minutemen who died at the Battle of Lexington, but those men were later reburied on the Battle Green. A British soldier who was wounded at the Battle of Lexington and later died at the Buckman Tavern is interred in the Old Burying Ground. Many believe the leader of the Lexington Minutemen, Captain John Parker, was buried here after he succumbed to tuberculosis in September of 1775. Two memorials in the burying ground honor Parker and his service.
