Footsteps of History: Walking Tours of Sudbury
05.27.26 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Free
In May, the Goodnow Library will explore the town of Sudbury’s Barton Farm Conservation Land. The Barton Farm was once the home of George H. Barton, professor, geologist, and founder of the Boston Children’s Museum. On our walk we’ll discuss Barton’s career and travels as an “explorer” and, in commemoration of the nation’s 250th, explore how 19th century ideas of nationhood and America played a role in Barton’s decision to collect artifacts from the Indigenous communities he visited.
Following the walk, walkers are invited to drop by the Goodnow Library to explore collection materials donated by George Barton.
We will leave as a group from the Davis Field parking area at 1pm and walk down the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail towards Pantry Brook where the rail trail intersects with Barton Farm Conservation Land. Registration for this event is recommended. Drop ins are welcome, but the group will plan to leave the meet up area promptly at 1pm.
