Organized on October 12, 1894 at the home of Harriet Lothrop, the Old Concord Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the America Revolution is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

Members of the organization must be a lineal descendant from a patriot of the American Revolution and any woman, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove this lineage is eligible to join.

The chapter was founded by Lothrop, nom de plume Margaret Sidney, who wrote The Five Little Peppers book series. Lothrop, served as the chapter’s first regent and was made honorary president for life in 1901. Lothrop was also the founder of the Children of the American Revolution with her daughter, Margaret, as member #1.
