Westford’s Fairview Cemetery

Main Street, Westford, MA

Several cemeteries in Westford, Massachusetts are known for the numerous Revolutionary War Patriots buried there. The East Burying Ground, also known as the Fairview Cemetery, dates back to 1702. It was long known as Snow’s Cemetery after caretaker Levi Snow, who managed the grounds from 1835 until his death in 1869. Inspired by the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Snow tended the cemetery like a garden. The ornamental landscaping makes this a fitting final resting place for the 26 known Revolutionary War Patriots interred there. A number of Westford’s Minutemen served at Lexington and Concord, the Siege of Boston, and the Battle of Bunker Hill. In 1902, the Sons of the American Revolution marked their graves with a series of cast iron Maltese crosses.

Eleven known Patriots of Fairview cemetery include:

Thomas Adams • Ebenezer Fletcher • Willard Fletcher • Eleazer Hamlin • Hosea Hildreth • John Hildreth • Jonathan Minot Sr • Joshua Read • Samuel Read • Joseph Read/Reed • Abijah Richardson
