The Pineo family — Michael, Amy, Josh, and Allison — run this 150-acre farm off of Tuttle Road in Sterling, Massachusetts. Five of those acres are devoted to growing fruits and vegetables, 25 are devoted to hay, and the remaining acreage supports local ecosystems and wildlife.
The property, formerly known as “Schenk Farm,” was purchased by Michael Pineo’s grandparents in 1954. The Pineos ran the property primarily as an apple and peach orchard. Michael learned the ropes of farming through the 4H program and began working at local dairy farms. He introduced the sawmill and Pineo Forest Products Division to the farm in 1998. Pineo Family Farm was officially launched in the Spring of 2007.
At the farm store, visitors will find vegetables including squash, beans, greens, corn, peppers, onions, potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, and more. Select fruits are available seasonally. For the full spectrum of the farm’s offerings, apply for the CSA program. Pineo Family Farm also offers cordwood and rough-sawn lumber.
