Abolitionist, suffragist and lecturer for the American Anti-Slavery Society, Lucy Stone (1818-1893) delivered her first speech in 1847 at the former Evangelical Congregational Church in Gardner, Massachusetts where her brother-in-law was the pastor. A marker placed at the site of her sister’s home, which she visited frequently, honors the women’s rights pioneer.
