Town Centers
Town centers became hubs with roads leading from village to farmstead and other villages. The “great roads” became turnpikes for stagecoaches and commerce. Taverns and Post Road houses served meals to townspeople during long Sunday services and provided lodging for travelers.
The pattern of town Commons, with 18th-century architecture, churches, town halls or houses is plentiful. Always near the center, cemeteries and old burying grounds reveal epidemics and wars.
