THE ROYALL HOUSE & SLAVE QUARTERS, MEDFORD, MA
In the 18th century this historic museum was home to the largest slaveholding family in Massachusetts and the enslaved Africans who made their way of life possible. The Slave Quarters is the only such structure still remaining in the northern United States and the Royall House is a fine example of colonial-era buildings in New England. Explore the museum through this video: Stuff You Missed in History Class—Wealth and Slavery in Massachusetts. Open June through November with special programs throughout the year.
